  1. Puerto Cisnes receives its first cruise call in mid-November from the 16,800-ton Silver Cloud.

  3. The Puerto Cisnes Connectivity Terminal features a floating dock and over 500 square meters of space.
  4. The call follows nearly a decade of management effort by port operator Emporcha.
  5. The itinerary visits three countries and 15 destinations, opening the ship's 2026-27 Antarctica season.

Puerto Cisnes, Chile, will receive its first cruise ship in mid-November, when Silversea's 16,800-ton Silver Cloud calls at a port built for ferries, not luxury expedition ships.

Empresa Portuaria Chacabuco (Emporcha), the port operator, frames the call as the payoff of nearly a decade of work to bring cruise traffic to the Aysén Province town. The visit operationally validates the Puerto Cisnes Connectivity Terminal as a cruise-capable berth — a meaningful distribution shift for southern Patagonia itineraries, where calls have concentrated on established ports such as Puerto Montt, Punta Arenas and Ushuaia.

What does the first call change?

Until now, Cisnes' infrastructure served regional ferries and cabotage services. The Silver Cloud call tests whether a converted ferry gateway can handle an upscale expedition product.

The terminal's cruise-readiness rests on concrete assets, according to Felipe Candia, general manager of Emporcha. The facility includes:

  • A floating dock
  • More than 500 square meters of terminal space

"Nearly a decade of management effort is yielding concrete results," said Emporcha President Eduardo Vera Wandersleben. "We have successfully established reliability in Cisnes' community management to welcome a luxury cruise ship in just a few months."

Who is paying for the bet?

Local government carried the infrastructure investment. Cisnes Mayor Francisco Roncagliolo Leporati said the city funded projects to host vessels, including the passenger terminal that will receive the Silver Cloud.

"This infrastructure was designed with the expectation of attracting cruise ships. Today, that projection is becoming a reality, challenging to be excellent hosts to boost local commerce, crafts and services," the mayor said.

That positions shore-side spending — retail, crafts, services — as the return the municipality expects from the call. Emporcha and the city have not disclosed projected per-call passenger spend, so the commercial upside remains a projection until the first passengers disembark.

Where does the ship fit in the itinerary?

The Silver Cloud arrives as part of a 20-day cruise from Valparaíso to Puerto Williams, calling in three countries. The 260-passenger vessel is scheduled to visit 14 other destinations beyond Cisnes, including Puerto Montt, Tortel, Punta Arenas and Ushuaia.

The itinerary also features exploration in Antarctica and scenic cruising through the Chilean fjords before ending in Puerto Williams, opening the ship's 2026-27 Antarctica season.

For expedition operators, a proven call at Cisnes adds a routing option between the fjords and the far south. For local sellers of travel and tour operators in Aysén, the November call is a first test of whether the region can convert cruise traffic into repeat business.
